Hi, Jane :

When the weather was hot, i thought it was nice
When it was cold i thought that it was good for the ice
When the sun was up, it was always shining
On cloudy days i saw silver lining

My father told me "i love you Stanley
Are you gonna be a doctor like me ?"
But i traveled around, i slept on the train
And on my mind was a girl called Jane

I went to Prague in a fall, one time
Just to see what was up with Tsimmerman
I thought i was a bohemian already
And had nothing to learn from anybody

But hanging about with Tsimmerman in Prague
I lost my temperance and my bag
I started to stumble, it started to rain
And i started to think of Jane again

She’s a treat, she’s a sugar cane
She will take away your pain
When i see her again
I ‘ll be happy just to say « hi, Jane »

I had idols at the time, it may sound funny to you
But i wanted to be like Bono from U2
There was also another singer i admired
I think he’s still alive, but i know he retired

He spent years writing sitting on his bed
A book like no one has ever read
His family says he's gone insane
The book is dedicated to a girl called Jane

I got to know Jane, and she got to know me
She licked my spoon and i stirred her tea
We were getting along, we Laughed a lot
She found me funny when i thought i was not

You wern't exactly seeing each other
We were more like sister and brother
But i started to like just saying her name
It’s so hard to stay friends with that girl called Jane

There's a lot to learn in a mere lifetime
There’s more to crave than to fear, i find
You wake up different one fine day
And all your past seems so far away

Time is on your side, time is your friend
There is really nothing to lose in the end
Shyness is lame and shyness is vane
So go and talk to a girl called Jane

Things Ain’t What They Used to Be :

What i try to do is find the right word
These days i need to look back a bit
My muse is the beauty of the world
I don’t get much from the lack of it

You talk to people and they don’t even reply
People are losing it, believe me
It’s a fact, it’s here, it’s hard to deny
Things ain’t what they used to be

I get tired quickly when i smoke pot
I’m not too smart and i’m not too cute
It’s a pity  but more often than not
My skin starts to feel like e a wet suit

We're talkng about a whole world going wrong
You don’t discuss that over decaf tea
We have to be decadent, we have to be strong
But please, no more whiskey sour for me

Today's bartenders don’t want to hear your story
They don’t smoke, they’re on the phone
They won’t give you water, if you don’t give them money
If you’re not online, you’re really all alone

I went to the bathroom to wash my face
But i didn’t feel like any of their drinks
He told me to leave, he said "get out of this place"
I said, "that’s not how you speak to Stanley Brinks"

End Of The World :

All the women and men i’ve ever known
Have troubles that they want to call their own
They think they're gonna die someday
And they struggle to keep the thought away

But it’s always been the end of the world
And i’m in love with a beautiful girl

Me, i think about a girl, and how she’s pretty
When death comes to me and says, "are you ready ?"
My answer will be very simple, i guess
It’ll start with an y and end with an s

My baby does a lot of things
She can’t fly for lack of wings
Oh but she whams, she bangs, she ding-a-lings
My baby she does a lot of things

She's always around, she follows me
My baby's like a little monkey
She’s really tiny, she's easy to feed, oh
Oh My baby's a bit like a mosquito

Keep Your Head High :

Bury me with a lighter and an ashtray
Send me a carton every other day
And as the embers die
Keep your head high

Well, i’ve been good and i’ve been brave
But don’t write that on my grave
It’ll just sound like a lie
Keep your head high

I’m no phoenix, i’m no Jesus
I’d rather be eaten by hyenas
Don’t you let my soul fly
Keep your head high

That time we spent together was mighty fine
We had a mighty fine time
Don’t cry, if i die don’t cry
Keep your head high

Blues About The Size Of Someone Else’s Heart :

Oh baby, i know you’ve got a heart
Say, baby, i know you’ve got a heart
It’s neither big nor strong
But it’s beating, it’s a start

Did you lose it, baby, i guess you must be blind
Say, did you lose it , baby, i guess you must be blind
I can’t help it, baby, if you are on my mind

Do you need me baby, to holler and shout
Say, do you need me baby, to scream, holler and shout
Are you playing the fool now ? can’t you figure me out ?

Kiss Me Too :

It won’t be long, you will see
We can’t be wrong, you and me
We’ll go swimming in the salt salt sea

Take your time, please do
We’ll be fine, me and you
Tell me what you think is true
And kiss me too

It’ll be like a drream, you will see
We’re a good team, you and me
If the door is locked, we’ll find the key

Use your voice, please do
We have a choice, me and you
Just give me a hint, give me a clue
And kiss me too

Our love is pristine
Our love is unseen
Our love is unheard of
It's the coolest kind of love

It’ll be alright, you will see
We’ll travel light, you and me
We’ll first be careless, then carefree

Play your part, please do
We know it by heart, me and you
Come a bit closer when you hear the cue
And kiss me too

It’ll be sweet, you will see
It’ll be food to eat for you and me
I mean apples from the appletree

Leave your story behind, please do
We're two of a kind, me and you
Be as bold as the day is new
Kiss me too

39 winks :

Could you be serious ?
Or were you just sleepwalking again ?
Was i delirious ?
One of us must be going insane

Did you take my hand ?
Was it me or another man ?

Was your mind eloping
Were you groping for a heart
I counted thirty nine winks
Did you think i would be that smart

It’s The Road :

If you want material things
And I can't give them to you
If you want diamond rings
I'll tell you what you can do

Try not to stay up to late
Try to rise early
I have an idea i think it’s great
I've thought about it thoroughly

Find a bank and crack the safe
Use cunning or dynamite
Do it all by yourself
You will make it alright

It’s better not to think too much
Keep your cool, take the money and run
When you get out of touch
Wait for the first light of the sun

If you want it truly
Don’t talk about it to me
What do i care
All you want is right there

If you want a new love
Quite unlike what i can offer
Something to be sure of
Well, just take it over

Be ruthleess, be mean
It’ll be easy to choose
However beautiful we have been
We don’t have that much to lose

Once it's all figured out
You know my home will be your abode
But if you still have the shadow of a doubt
Then it’s the road

Get out of my arms before dawn
Go away and have fun
And when you are gone
I’ll wait for the first light of the sun

Why The Martians Are Gone

The martians first landed in Norway
At the end of a very very long day
They looked for fun and for something to drink
Both were harder to find than one would think

They were too many rocks and too much snow
Even for an SU-UFO
One martian said, "what are we waiting for ?,
This is not a good country for war."

The martians then went to italy
They found the road to Rome quite easily
They liked the old stones and the tomato sauce
The marble lions and then the blood on the cross

The saucers had fifty horsepower
They were stuck in traffic for more than an hour
One martian said, "i can’t stand it anymore,
This is not a good country for war."

The martians got to Los Angeles
Choice number three on their list
Obviously, aliens had been there already
They had plundered the town and brainwashed everybody

There were nowhere left to go and nothing left to see
So they just flew straight through the city
One martian said "let’s try number four,
This is not a good counrty for war."

The martians kept traveling all over the planet
But the conquest never worked as they'd planned it
Their last stop was london after ten more days
Martians move in mysterious ways

The place was dead like LA but the streets were more narrow
No one could fly through, not even a sparrow
One martian said, "i told you before
This wasn’t gonna be a counrty for war."

All The love That Was Left :

Don't write it down
Let the words come out
Don’t write it down
Don’t write it down this time

I took all the love
All the love that was left
I took the glory and the blame
I’ll be damned, I’ll be blessed
I will be named
